Internet in Fiji: Nadi, the Coral Coast and the Islands (2026)

Fiji is outside EU roaming, and some home SIMs don't roam there at all. How to stay online in Nadi, on the islands and the Coral Coast, and who to call for help.

Telcomia·

Fiji is spread across more than 300 islands, but most visitors land at Nadi, on Viti Levu, the largest, and either stay on the Coral Coast or take a boat out to the Mamanuca and Yasawa islands. Suva, the capital, lies on the far side of Viti Levu, and divers head for Beqa Lagoon, Taveuni or Savusavu. Fiji is outside the EU's Roam Like at Home area, and some operators have no roaming agreement there at all, so check before relying on your home SIM.

Key facts for Fiji

  • EU roaming: not covered by Roam Like at Home
  • Local networks: Vodafone, Digicel (depending on the plan)
  • Emergency numbers: 911
  • Embassies: in Suva

Nadi and Denarau

Coverage is strong in Nadi town, at the airport and on Denarau, the resort island and marina where most boats to the outer islands leave from. Use only licensed taxis, which carry yellow number plates; the same goes for minibuses, as unlicensed ones are often uninsured.

The Mamanuca and Yasawa islands

The Mamanucas, close to Nadi, generally have coverage on the resort islands, while in the more remote Yasawas the signal is patchy and some islands have none, so resort Wi-Fi becomes the backup. Before any island hop, check the operator's credentials and safety equipment, avoid overloaded boats, especially in rough weather, and make sure there are enough life jackets for everyone on board.

The Coral Coast, Suva and beyond

The Queens Road along the Coral Coast, between Nadi and Suva, has signal in the towns and resorts, with gaps in between. Suva, the capital and the wettest part of Viti Levu, has good coverage. On Taveuni, Vanua Levu and the outer islands, coverage may be limited or absent away from the main settlements.

Reefs, currents and cyclones

Dangerous rip currents run along the reefs and river mouths, so swim where lifeguards are on duty, follow the warning flags and choose licensed operators for diving and water sports. The cyclone season normally runs from November to April, bringing strong winds, flooding and landslides that can close roads, and Fiji also lies in an earthquake zone. Follow the Fiji Meteorological Service and local media for warnings.

Village etiquette

If you visit a village, cover your shoulders and knees, especially during a kava ceremony, take off your hat and ask before taking photos. Topless bathing is illegal, and the drug laws are strict.

Paying

The currency is the Fijian dollar. Cards are widely accepted at resorts, but card skimming happens, so keep an eye on your card and use cash machines with care. Carry cash for markets, villages and the smaller islands.

Getting connected

A travel eSIM installed before you fly connects at Nadi airport, whether or not your home operator roams in Fiji. If it does, your own number can still receive texts and bank codes. Combining Fiji with Australia or New Zealand? An Oceania plan covers all three.

Fijian prepaid SIMs from Vodafone or Digicel are sold at Nadi airport, supermarkets and convenience stores, and they must be registered.

Consular protection: who to call in Fiji

  • 911 brings the police, an ambulance or the fire service.
  • Few EU countries have an embassy in Fiji, and many cover it from New Zealand or Australia, so the EU rule below matters here. The Telcomia app shows the nearest mission for your country, with address and phone.
  • If you are an EU citizen and your country has no embassy or consulate in Fiji, the embassy of any other EU country must help you on the same terms as its own nationals (Article 23 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the EU).
  • English is one of Fiji's official languages, alongside iTaukei and Fiji Hindi, so you can explain an emergency in English.
